Portsoken is a ward in the City of London. It is on the eastern
boundary of the City, adjoining Whitechapel.
It is a "soke" as it was originally outside of the old city walls and "Port" simply refers to a place, "Portsoken" means: area outside a boundary over which jurisdiction is extended.
A hunting ground in the medieval period, these days Portsoken
Ward is one of the few City of London wards with a sizeable residential population.
